Wintertime

Bilde0722People are usually dreaming of a white Christmas, in Norway we usually get one. This year we didn’t and the snow decided to bother us in January instead. Yesterday our little world was covered by millions of snowflakes. Snow is a part of winter, but it’s also the part of it that I’ve always disliked.

Anything wet and cold, just isn’t me.

The word winter, however, always pushes me into a state of melancholy. The word winter is beautiful. In winter the world freezes and comes to a standstill, just for a bit. After reading the book “Wintergirls” by Laurie Halse Anderson, the feeling of melancholy, whenever the word winter is mentioned, has been magnified. Not that Wintergirls got anything to do with winter, but the book has such a frozen feeling to it, like the one you get in winter. The book is, however, still one of my absolute favorites, not just one of those books you just call your favorite because it is the latest book read. I’ll do another post about books soon, I believe it will be a “best reads in 2011”-kind of post.

The snow, which was here yesterday, was gone today already, taking the winter away with it. Bye bye melancholy.
